Pogatetz set for Austria comeback

Emanuel Pogatetz may make a comeback to the Austrian national team.The Hannover 96 defender, who has been out of action for months recently due to injury, will feature on the team’s 23-member squad for an upcoming friendly against the Netherlands. Dietmar Constantini’s team will face the 2010 World Cup finalists in Rotterdam on 9 February.Austria Vienna captain Roland Linz, Wacker Innsbruck goal machine Marcel Schreter and former national team captain Andreas Ivanschitz were not chosen by Constantini.The national team boss did however decide to call up Rapid Vienna’s Yasin Pehlivan. The midfielder is currently facing criminal charges for getting involved in a fight outside a night club in Vienna some weeks ago. Pehlivan agreed with club bosses on a salary cut and several hours of voluntary welfare work.Rapid coach Peter Pacult was reportedly infuriated when the player informed club managers that he broke an arm in the incident although in fact both of his arms were fractured in the brawl.The incident made headlines in the Austrian press but also in Turkish newspapers. Pehlivan was born in Vienna but his family’s roots lie in Turkey. He has decided to play for the Austrian national team.Constantini’s squad also includes Aleksandar Dragovic. Austria Vienna announced today (Tues) that the defender has left the club to join FC Basel.Werder Bremen ace Sebastian Prödl, Rapid’s Veli Kavlak and Red Bull Salzburg star Jakob Jantscher will also have the chance to play against the Netherlands.The Austrian Bundesliga will continue with four matches on 12 February.
