Possible move to Newcastle for Soriano

Football player for Salzburg Jonathan Soriano has been linked to a move to Newcastle United, according to reports in Austrian media.

Twenty-nine-year-old Soriano has been playing for FC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria since January 2012, and during that time the club has won the Austrian championship in the last two seasons.

Soriano himself is responsible for 57 goals in 61 league appearances.

Analysts say however that Soriano is too old for the club at St. James Park in the northern English city of Newcastle who recently hinted that they are looking at targeting younger players. At 29, Soriano is unlikely to increase in value at the end of a three year contract.

However Newcastle boss Mike Ashley is on the hunt for goalscorers, especially those with low transfer fees, which means Soriano could be attractive for them. His transfer to Salzburg in 2012 came at the bargain price of 300,000 GBP (369,000 EUR).

Previous to moving to the Salzburg side where he played first division football for the first time, Soriano played for Barcelona’s reserve team.
