Escalator plunge teen recovers

A teenager who suffered serious head injuries trying to balance on an escalator handrail is no longer in danger of his life, it has emerged.Rafael F. was rushed to the Wilhelminen Clinic after falling from eight metres to the ground in a stunt at Vienna’s Spittelau underground train station on Saturday night.He is recovering after undergoing surgery, police said today (Tues). Officials explained the 17-year-old was relocated from the hospital’s intensive care department to another ward this morning.Authorities also said that a 10-year-old boy who suffered a three-metre plunge trying to skid down the handrail of a moving staircase at the Johnstraße station in Vienna on Sunday will make a full recovery. His injuries turned out not to be life-threatening, doctors explained.
