Teen injured in moving staircase fall

A teenager is fighting for his life after plunging from an escalator in Vienna at the weekend.Rafael F., 17, was balancing on the handrail of the moving staircase at the Spittelau underground train station when he lost his balance. He sustained life-threatening head injuries in the eight-metre plunge which occurred on Saturday night, police said today (Mon).Officials said the teen, who was on his way home from a party with pals, was slightly drunk or not under the influence of alcohol at all. He underwent emergency surgery at the Wilhelminen Clinic.Around one year ago, a 10-year-old boy died of head injuries after falling 15 metres from an escalator at Vienna’s Westbahnhof railway station.
