Austrian wines to feature heavily at German trade fair

Some 348 Austrian wine producers and experts will exhibit at Germany’s biggest wine fair in March. Wine growers, cooperatives and wine and sekt producers will take part in the “Pro Wein” event from 4 to 6 March in Dusseldorf.

The International Trade Fair of Wines and Spirits entitled “Pro Wein” in Germany is an event open exclusively to members of the food and drinks industry whether in retail, hotel, gastronomy, wholesale or manufacturing branches. As such it provides the perfect platform for more than 3,600 exhibitors to promote their products to experts from around the world. Austria will have a particularly strong presence at the fair this year with 180 companies from Lower Austria alone.

The Austrian participation in the “Pro Wein” event was far less impressive 10 years ago with only half of the current number of participants. At this year’s fair, Austria is the fifth-largest exhibitor after hosts Germany and the three “major wine powers” Italy, France and Spain.

“The trade fair is of real significance for the Austrian wine economy and is the single most important showcasing of our products abroad,” explained the chairman of wine and spirits trading for the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce. Producers from Lower Austria make up more than half of the 348 exhibitors from Austria with a particularly strong presence from the Weinviertel area.

The various producers will showcase their wine at the fair in Dusseldorf during which guests can take part in tastings, talks from experts and of course buy the bottles to take home themselves.
