Michal Jackson memorial gets green light

A statue to Michael Jackson is being put up in the middle of a tiny Austrian town by fans that live there as a tribute to their hero.

Councillors in Mistelbach in a wine growing region north of the Austrian capital Vienna have officially approved the request for the statue which will go in the town centre.

Fan Martina Kainz, 39, who put forward the idea and raised the money from other fans living locally in the town of 11,000 said: “He was a hero who inspired many people’s lives. We want the legend to live on with our own monument here.”

She has a web page for the project and said said that the statue will cost 10,000 euros and 5,000 has already been raised for the work that will by made by Czech sculptor Daniel Kartakova.
