Car crashes into two trams

Three people were injured when a motorist crashed into two trams in Vienna yesterday (Thurs).The man collided with a line 6 tram before plowing into a tram on the number 71 line after he ignored the red light at a crossing in the Simmering district. The driver, his front-seat passenger and one tram passenger suffered undisclosed injuries, public transport agency Wiener Linien said today.Tram service on the route had to be suspended for more than an hour after the accident.Service on the tram lines number 10 and 44 in Vienna-Hernals had to stop for around 15 minutes on the same day after a tram derailed. No one was injured in the incident.Vienna’s tram network is the fifth-largest in the world at 172 kilometres.Wiener Linien recently announced it will set up more digital information boards at bus and tram stations, and hopes to double the current 500 by 2015. The agency also vowed to work on reducing the incidences of false information being displayed by the devices.
