Salzburg pensioner injured from falling tree
A pensioner was seriously injured yesterday (Thurs) when a tree he was cutting down fell on top of him near Rauris in Salzburgs Pinzgau region.Police said the man, 60, had been the victim of bad luck since the trees branches had hit another tree as it was falling, changing the direction of its fall onto him.Rescuers took the man by helicopter to a hospital in Schwarzach.This was the second case this week of an accident caused by a falling tree in Austria.A 39-year-old mentally-ill Salzburg man lost his life when he was hit by a tree during forestry work in Wagrain on Tuesday.The mentally disabled man ran towards a tree his father and brother-in-law had been cutting down when it fell on top of him.Local officials said the man suffered head and spine injuries and died at the site before an ambulance could arrive.
