Post clerk admits thefts
A post office employee has admitted stealing shipments containing valuables for many years.The 44-year-old woman confessed her wrongdoings when she was questioned by police investigating a number of cases in which letters and parcels containing money and jewellery disappeared.The suspect – who has been suspended – worked at a post office in Fohnsdorf, Styria. She did not say whether financial difficulties or other problems tempted her to commit the crimes.Police explained the overall damage of her actions could not yet be determined as investigations are ongoing.Only some weeks ago, a former post distribution centre employee was sentenced to eight months in prison for stealing money out of mail for 20 years.The 50-year-old man from Klagenfurt in Carinthia was found guilty of taking cash and valuables worth 100,000 Euros from letters and parcels.
