Bilic set for Hajduk return

Former Rapid Vienna star Mate Bilic is considering ending his career in his homeland, according to reports in Croatian papers today (Fri).The 30-year-old Sporting de Gijon ace is currently being targeted by Croatian top-flight club HNK Hajduk Split, according to the Croatian Times newspaper. Bilic played for the vice champions between 1997 and 2001 before joining Spanish giants Real Zaragoza.The national team striker has scored 17 goals in 54 appearances for Rapid since 2006. Rapid transferred Bilic to Sporting de Gijon in 2008.The Croat has denied to comment on speculations about a possible return to the Prva HNL, his home country’s top-flight football league.Meanwhile, Boris Prokopic has returned to Rapid. The 22-year-old midfielder joined Bundesliga rivals Wacker Innsbruck on loan in December 2009 after failing to make Rapid’s starting eleven. He is tipped to force Yasin Pehlivan out of Rapid’s line-up when the league continues next month. Pehlivan fell out with Rapid bosses after breaking both arms in a night-time brawl outside a pub in the city centre of Vienna.Rapid also signed defender Michael Schimpelsberger from Dutch side Twente Enschede, while striker Hamdi Salihi is understood to be on the wish list of some French clubs.Rapid’s city rivals Austria Vienna have set their sights on 20-year-old Arsenal striker Nacer Barazite. Aleksandar Dragovic is at the same time expected to leave the team of Karl Daxbacher before the league continues or at the end of the current season. Clubs in Switzerland and the Netherlands have signalled their interest in the defender.Red Bull Salzburg announced that Thomas Augustinussen will return to Aalborg BK.
