ÖFB president Windtner to stay put

Leo Windtner is to remain head of the Austrian Football Federation (ÖFB).A committee formed by the body’s nine provincial department chiefs and Bundesliga boss Hans Rinner decided to name Windtner as the only candidate for the post at the 30 May election.Windtner, who also acts as CEO of Linz-based electricity company Energie AG, became ÖFB president in February 2009. He succeeded Österreichischen Lotterien (Austrian Lotteries) general director Friedrich Stickler. “I’m happy about the decision. I think it shows everyone pulls together for the best of Austrian football,” he said today (Weds).Meanwhile the ÖFB announced it would continue cooperating with the tourism marketing board of Burgenland.Officials said last month that the province stays on board as main sponsor at least 2012. The ÖFB and Burgenland tourism strategists have started to cooperate in 1997.The national team’s next match will be a friendly against Croatia in Klagenfurt on 19 May.
