Parts of U4 underground to be closed in 2016 and 2017

Wiener Linien the operator of Vienna’s underground trains has announced that the U4 line is to undergo works and be modernised.

As part of these modernising works parts of the U4 will have to be closed.

From May until September 2016 no trains will travel between Hütteldorf and Schönbrunn – with the exception of May and June where trains will travel as far as Hietzing.

In July and August 2017 there will be no trains between the U4 stations of Margaretengürtel and Kettenbrückengasse.

A replacement bus service will be put in place at these periods.

The works on the line will begin in Spring 2014 and will last until 2020 and are expected to cost an estimates 335 million Euro – which will be shared between the City of Vienna and Wiener Linien.

The tracks as well as the platforms and stations are to be modernised.
