Glacier fall girl saved by snagged rucksack

A Belgian teenager survived after plunging feet first into a crevasse on the Pitztaler Glacier in Tirol because her rucksack stopped her from falling 20 meters into the heart of the huge ice block.

The teenager was treated for shock and the effects of the cold after she was freed by mountain rescue workers.

Ailleboust was on a skiing holiday and had wandered onto the glacier in the fog after losing her direction, and then fell feet first into the crevasse.

Her cries for help were heard by others who raised the alarm.
