Bungling bank robber nabbed
A hapless criminal was collared as he tried to rob a bank while police attended the branch on other grounds.Police officers called by clerks after the handbag of an elderly woman was stolen moments after she had left the bank in Viennas Mariahilf district with a large amount of cash yesterday afternoon (Thurs).When checking footage recorded by the branchs CCTV system, the officers grew suspicious of a man entering the branch wearing a hoodie sweater and sunglasses earlier on the same day. The same person entered the bank a few minutes later while the policemen were still examining footage of the day in a backroom. This time, the man approached a counter to present a paper plate saying “This is a hold-up!”The 46-year-old Turk was arrested on the spot. He told police high debts forced him into committing a crime.Earlier this week, another would-be bank robber was arrested following examinations of CCTV footage in Vienna.Debt-stricken Franz O. told police he saw no other option than holding up a bank when his financial woes grew worse. The 61-year-old fled without any money after abandoning his bid when clerks did not react to his demand to hand over cash three months ago.
