Cash machine con has South American link, police say

A bank in Carinthia has vowed to compensate its clients after conmen withdrew thousands of Euros from their accounts.Kärntner Sparkasse said today (Weds) police are examining the incident. The firm explained that fraudsters apparently managed to get account information of clients after a small camera was set up at a cashpoint in Klagenfurt.Large amounts of money disappeared from several customers’ accounts at the weekend, the bank explained, adding that investigations suggest that the people behind the crime are based in La Plata, Argentina.Kärntner Sparkasse – which is part of Erste Bank – emphasised that the affected customers will be indemnified.Meanwhile, police in the Lower Austrian town of Gerasdorf said a local bank branch cash terminal was blown up in an attempt to steal cash. Officials explained it seemed that no money is missing.
