German survives 400-metre fall

A German hiker survived falling down an icy ravine with minor injuries.The 37-year-old man from Paderborn – on a ski tour with his brother, 28, and their 39-year-old cousin – plunged around 400 metres when their snow-covered track gave way at the Wildspitze mountain range near Imst in Tyrol yesterday (Mon). He was buried by an avalanche after the fall.A team of mountain rescuers managed to find and free the man in little time. He sustained a few bruises in the incident.One day earlier, a 40-year-old German woman was hospitalised with serious injuries she suffered in a fall in Tyrol’s Karwendel region.
