Soldier killed in head-on crash with drunk trucker

An army sergant died when a boozed-up lorry driver ploughed into his vehicle in Carinthia this morning (Weds).The 49-year-old soldier from Rinkenberg in Carinthia was returning from a night-time military drill. He died shortly after the collision with the oncoming truck of severe injuries to his chest.The 43-year-old lorry driver from Griffen was found to be over the legal drink and drive limit after the collision near Bleiburg. The Carinthian, who remained unharmed, faces traffic and manslaughter charges.The number of traffic deaths declined by 6.8 per cent to 633 year on year in 2009.
