Escaped Austrian nabbed in Germany after 10 months on the run

A serial fraudster who failed to return to jail after being released on leave has been arrested after being on the run for almost a year.Police in the German state of Bavaria said the 50-year-old Austrian has been put in custody in Passau after being caught in Bad Füssing yesterday afternoon (Weds).Upper Austrian police cooperated with police across Europe to find the criminal after he did not return to Linz prison after a permitted one-day leave last August.Bavarian and Austrian authorities are now set to negotiate whether the man will be extradited to his homeland or faces a trial in Germany since he has a criminal record in both countries.Meanwhile Viennese man Philipp H. – who is accused of kidnapping and torturing his wealthy adoptive mother – faces extradition after he was arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, earlier this week.The 28-year-old man is suspected of locking up and tormenting Hannelore H. at a cellar in Hurghada, Egypt, in a bid to get her to sign over her property to him. He reportedly received around one million Euros in real estate and cash from the 68-year-old woman.
