Dutch skier ends up in clinic after ‘black slope’ crash
A 23-year-old skier from the Netherlands was hospitalised with head injuries after crashing on a piste at a Tyrolean resort yesterday (Weds).Police in Sölden said the man fell over on the difficult “black slope” after losing control of his skis and landed on his head and shoulders on the icy piste. He was knocked out for a short period, they said, adding that he was hospitalised with a broken arm and concussion at Hall clinic via helicopter.The Austrian Committee for Traffic Safety (KfV), which also deals with leisure time accidents, announced ahead of the current winter season it expected around 56,000 of the nine to ten million people skiing or snowboarding on the countrys slopes to end up in hospital this winter.The organisation said there had been 58,100 people severely injured during the 2008/2009 winter season.
