Cab driver throws out dark-skinned opera singer

An opera star has said that she was kicked out of a taxi for being black.Afro-American soprano Angel Blue said today (Thurs) that she was ordered to get out of a cab in Vienna moments after she entered it.Weekly magazine News reports the singer as saying: “The driver said: ‘I don’t drive black women – get out!’ I did so – and started to cry. All I wanted in that moment was to get away from here.”The 27-year-old from California currently is currently starring in Benjamin Britten’s opera “The Rape of Lucretia” at Vienna’s Theater an der Wien opera house.Blue said the incident occurred two weeks ago. She appealed on police to track down and punish the cab driver she described as a grey-haired Austrian man aged between 50 and 60.Andreas Curda of the Association of Taxi Drivers in Vienna argued: “It will be impossible to find the man based on this information and with no licence plate number.”Curda explained around 4,500 taxis are registered in the city. He added: “Every driver is obliged to chauffeur paying customers.”Viennese Social Democratic (SPÖ) Integration Issues Councillor Sandra Frauenberger said: “Such incidents must not occur without any consequences.”
