Vienna debut for WPT

A World Poker Tour (WPT) is taking place in Vienna for the first time.Cardplayer.com reports today (Thurs) that the 3,500-Euro buy-in tournament at the Montesino Casino in the city’s Simmering district starts today. The online games news platform added that four more events will take place at the venue until 30 March.The WPT will then move on to the Slovakian capital Bratislava which is located just 75 kilometres from Vienna.The news comes after an Austrian made the top 30 in a European Poker Tour (EPT) competition held at the Kursalon Hübner palace in the city centre of Vienna last November.Franz Markus Popetschnig finished the six-day tournament in 26th place among 587 players. Canadian poker star Daniel Negreanu and Wimbledon Champion Boris Becker also participated in the event. Winner Michael Eiler – a 20-year-old student from Munich, Germany – bagged 700,000 Euros.
