Achy lakey heart

It is the romantic heart-shaped lake that is putting an end to heartbreak for singles in Austria after becoming a magnet for matchmaking clubs in the country.

Remote Luna Lake in Vorarlberg used to be round until it was flooded as part of a hydro-electric power project, which turned it into a perfect heart.

Lonelyhearts club boss Karin Zoerrer-Zeiner – who runs hikes for singles looking for love – reckons the romantic location is responsible for at least four weddings and countless relationships for her members.

“It is a really romantic location and really popular with people looking for a partner,” she said.

“Sitting on a mountain top and looking at that spectacular view, it’s the perfect way to relax and make friends.

“All people on our hikes are single, relaxed and interested in meeting someone new. We try to make sure no-one ends up on their own for long,” she added.
