Josephat Keiyo has won this year’s Linz Marathon.

The 30-year-old long-distance running ace from Kenya finished the 11th edition of the event – which took place on Sunday – in two hours, 11 minutes and 18 seconds. Slovenia’s Denaja Grandovec won the women’s competition in two hours, 41 minutes and 26 seconds.

More than 15,000 professional and hobby athletes from over 100 countries participated in the Linz Marathon 2012 which developed into one of the most popular Marathons in Central Europe over the years.

Now long-distance running enthusiasts focus on the Maratona d’Europa of Trieste. The run – which also features a Half Marathon competition and a contest for hand bikers – is scheduled for 6 May. Thousands of runners and their families and friends are expected to visit the picturesque northern Italian port city to be part of the 13th edition of its Marathon.

The Maratona d’Europa’s homepage – www.bavisela.it – offers various information for runners and those who will accompany them.
