Former number one in the world Ana Ivanovic won her first WTA Tour title in two years in Linz yesterday (Sun).The 22-year-old Serb beat Swiss ace Patty Schnyder in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) in the final of the 220,000 US dollar Generali Ladies tournament.Ivanovic, who also triumphed in the 2008 edition of the event, was signed up by the tournament’s organisers after US American star Serena Williams pulled out at the last minute due to injury.”I risked a lot and it paid off. I felt very comfortable on the court today,” said Ivanovic after the match. Her biggest success in professional world tennis so far had been winning the French Open in 2008.It was the third time after 2005 and 2007 that Schnyder, 32, reached but lost the Generali Ladies final.Jürgen Melzer, Austria’s number one in world tennis, celebrated his ninth doubles event title yesterday. The 29-year-old and Indian Leander Paes, 37, beat Polish team Mariusz Fyrstenberg / Marcin Matkowski in the final of the 3.24 million US dollar event in Shanghai (7-5, 4-6, 10/5).
