Life Ball scores with Becker

Boris Becker will attend this year’s Life Ball, it was announced today (Thurs).Organisers of the HIV/AIDS awareness event – set to take place at Vienna City Hall on 17 July – said the German tennis legend and his wife Lilly will be among star guests.They added former US President Bill Clinton and “Sister Act” star Whoopie Goldberg were also confirmed to attend the celebrations.Other high-profile guests include violinist David Garrett, designer Roberto Cavalli and actress Liz Hurley.Organisers stressed that more celebrities who confirmed their attendance will be announced later this month.Famed US fashion labels Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole and Diane von Furstenberg will be in charge of this year’s catwalk show in front of the City Hall, while the Burgtheater will be the location for side events for the first time in the ball’s 18-year history.National and international AIDS projects receive around 600,000 Euros of donations and ticket sales every year.Organisers stressed that they regarded it as something special that the ball – the biggest HIV/AIDS awareness event in the world – has been taking place in the City Hall in all those years.The 2010 Life Ball will kick off the 18th International AIDS Conference taking place between 18 and 23 July in Vienna. Tens of thousands of experts are expected to attend the congress to discuss the latest developments in fighting the disease.
