New pilgrimage route to open in Lower Austria

A new 162 kilometre long St. James pilgrimage route from Mikulov in the Czech Republic to Krems, Lower Austria, will formally open on Easter Monday, it was announced today (Mon).The opening ceremony and blessing of the route will take place in Großrußbach.The route, which will go through Drasenhofen, Mistelbach, Großrußbach and Stockerau in Lower Austria’s Weinviertel, will go through 25 municipalities and pass 39 churches.The project has been in preparation for a year and is expected to boost tourism in the Weinviertel. It is expected that pilgrims will be able to complete it comfortably in six days.Guided tours along the route will also be possible, with 11 trained guides at pilgrims’ disposal.For more information, visit www.jakobsweg-weinviertel.at
