Thunderstorms set to follow heatwave
Weather men are warning that the blast of hot weather seen in Austria during the past week is set to be followed by thunderstorms in nearly all areas of the country over the next couple of days.
Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 37 degrees Celsius on Wednesday in some areas, before the rain and lightning hits and by Thursday, strong thunderstorms are possible throughout Austria.
“From Vorarlberg to the western part of Lower Austria the first showers and thunderstorms will by the morning have already hit,” predicts Nikolas Zimmermann from the weather service UBIMET.
In some areas, Zimmermann warned that there is even the possibility of severe weather risks from heavy rain, small-scale floods and even hail.
As the weekend comes, it will lighten up once again with some sunshine, although a few thunderstorms might hit during the daytime. On Saturday there will temperatures of around 24 degrees Celsius and on Sunday around 21 degrees Celsius.
The sunniest spot will be in Upper Austria, where the temperatures are expected to be a little higher and more consistent.
