Angry Hungarian cools off after river plunge

A hotheaded Hungarian got the chance to cool off after threatening to kill his girlfriend and her sister when he jumped into the river Salzach and tried to swim away in order to escape police.

But with the temperature in the river just under 12 degrees the 41-year-old Hungarian was soon in difficulties and had to be rescued by police in a patrol boat.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for mild hypothermia and then taken to jail where he is being kept in investigative custody.

The man had earlier threatened his girlfriend and smashed up her car before police arrived to try cool things down in the early hours of the morning.
