Storms and downpours in Lower Austria

Vast areas of the largest Austrian province were hit by strong winds and intense rainfall yesterday evening (Thurs).

Several districts were affected, officials in Lower Austria said today. Twenty-eight fire brigades were in action to free roads from mud and cellars from water. Collapsed trees brought traffic to a halt on some of the province’s most important routes.

No one was injured, according to information from this morning.

Various other parts of the country including Salzburg experienced strong winds and thunderstorms earlier this week.
