Sleeping captain rams berthed ship
Massive damage has been caused when a passenger ship crashed into a vessel in Lower Austria.Local shipping officials said today (Fri) the captain of the Swiss ship may have fallen asleep behind the rudder before running into a ferry near Orth an der Donau south-east of Vienna on Tuesday night. Repairs to both ships will cost around 100,000 Euros and take months, they explained.Officials did not give any information on whether there were any passengers on the cruise ship at the time of the accident. The berthed ferry which was hit by the passing cruiser was empty and out of operation when the crash happened.It has not yet been clarified if insurers will cover all damages caused. The authorities had no information on whether the captain in charge faces any sanctions.
