Forstinger under fire for ‘Wehrmacht’ gas can sale

A leading car equipment chain has apologised after it emerged that it offered a petrol can named after a World War Two (WWII) military force.Forstinger, which runs around 120 stories across Austria, promised today (Thurs) to remove the “Wehrmacht” gas canister from its shelves within the next few days after a member of the Austrian Social Democrats’ (SPÖ) youth organisation spotted the item in a branch in Freistadt, Upper Austria.The company – which offers car accessories, sports equipment and tools – admitted that the olive-green petrol can named after the Third Reich’s armed forces had been on sale for around 15 years.Backing Nazi mindset and spreading fascist propaganda are punishable acts under Austrian law.
