Farmer’s face slashed by saw
A Carinthian farmer sustained severe facial injuries in a forestry accident yesterday (Mon).The 58-year-old was working on his own in his woodlands near Steinfeld in the province Spittal an der Drau district when he suddenly lost control of his chainsaw. The saw flipped up and slashed his jaw.The man managed to drive himself to his farm. He had lost a substantial amount of blood when he arrived. His wife called an ambulance before she carried out first aid. The farmer was transferred to a hospital in Klagenfurt via helicopter. His condition was described as “serious, but not life-threatening” today.Only on Thursday, an 82-year-old resident of Kematen an der Krems in Upper Austria cut off his own hand with a pickaxe in a careless moment while splitting blocks of wood in his garden.
