AUA emergency landing in Munich
An Austrian Airlines (AUA) plane had to abandon a take-off yesterday afternoon (Thurs) after a wheel dropped off.Fifty-six passengers were on the Fokker 70 jet bound for Vienna International Airport (VIA). Pilots decided to return to Franz Josef Strauss International Airport in Munich, Germany, after realising that one of the planes wheels plunged to the ground moments after it took off.A spokesman for AUA, which was taken over by German aviation firm Lufthansa one and a half years ago, said today, none of the passengers and crew were injured. He added the customers were transferred to Vienna by AUA on a substitute plane.The Fokker plane underwent an inspection on the same day.Only in December, pilots of a Fokker 100 operated by AUA were incorrectly informed about problems with the landing gear on a flight from Vienna to Minsk in Belarus.
