Avalanche injures one in Salzburg

Two people were buried by an avalanche in Salzburg this morning (Fri).Officials announced the avalanche went down at the Maurer glacier near the Kitzsteinhorn Mountain in the province’s Pongau area.The avalanche engulfed two people. Their sexes, ages and nationalities have been withheld by authorities. One of them managed get free without help from others, while the other person was slightly injured but soon found by mountain rescuers and transferred to a clinic.Several areas in the Austrian Alps raised their individual avalanche risk levels due to the intense snowfall of the past days when changing temperatures created hazardous conditions at descents off marked slopes.People going on a ski tours and skiers and snowboarders leaving groomed pistes have been urged to equip themselves with avalanche tracking devices.Avalanches claim an average 26 victims in the Austrian mountains each year.
