Massive damage as Advent wreath catches fire

Around 20,000 Euros of damages were caused at a bank branch in Gödersdorf, Carinthia, when an Advent wreath caught fire at the weekend.Staff forgot to turn off the plastic wreath’s electric candles when going home on Friday evening. A patrolling policeman noticed the smoke coming out of the building the next day. He called the local fire brigade after failing to rescue the blaze with a hand-held fire extinguisher.Fire-fighters said today (Mon) overall damage caused by the blaze stood at around 20,000 Euros.Earlier this month, a 25-year-old fireman was sentenced to three months in jail with another 15 months on suspension for having set a factory in Nettingsdorf, Upper Austria, on fire twice.
