Vienna man run down by U-Bahn loses leg

Surgeons had to remove a man’s lower leg after he was run down by an U-Bahn underground train in Vienna yesterday evening (Mon), it has been reported.The 25-year-old was walking along the platform at the city’s Schweden Square (Schwedenplatz) station when he suddenly fell on the tracks, according to witnesses.The man was hit and run over by an incoming U1 line train.Police, who have not yet questioned the man, said it was possible that he was under the influence of drugs. A suicide attempt could be ruled out, they added.Doctors, who amputated the man’s lower left leg, said he also suffered several broken ribs. They, however, stressed he was not in a life threatening state.
