Three €600,000 drug mules nabbed at VIA

Vienna International Airport (VIA) custom officers arrested three drug couriers trying to smuggle illegal substances worth more than half a million Euros inside their bodies.VIA authorities said today (Fri) the suspects – a 35-year-old Spanish woman, a 25-year-old Spaniard and a 31-year-old man from the USA – arrived individually at VIA on a flight from Spain. They added the drugs they carried inside their bodies – around 1.7 kilograms of cocaine and 500 grams of heroin – were worth around 600,000 Euros.Police said they found notes of addresses in Vienna when they searched the drug smugglers who are in custody in Vienna.VIA officials said the woman hid the drugs in her vagina, while the men swallowed 66 and 93 small plastic packets respectively.A spokesman for airport police forces revealed the American attacked two officers after his attempts to try and hide some of the smuggled packages were noticed.The spokesman said: “The suspects cited financial bottlenecks due to a case of sickness in the family as well as a shortage of money to pay the rent as motives. One of them however also claimed smuggling became an option after his wallet was stolen.”
