Eight beehives stolen in Vorarlberg

Vorarlberg police said a beekeeper rival might be behind a beehive theft which occurred over the weekend.Officials in Doren said yesterday (Tues) it was unlikely that the thief who made off with eight hives – home to 250,000 bees – did not know about beekeeping.An estimated 1,800 Euros worth of damage was caused by the theft.Josef Ulz, head of the Austrian Beekeeping Society, explained: “A non-professional normally does not dare to get anywhere near the hives. Incidents like this one happen very rarely.”Ulz added most beekeepers are insured against theft.
