Gardener survives fence impalement

A Vienna man is recovering after he was impaled by a garden fence yesterday (Weds).The 45-year-old fell onto one of the fence’s metal poles after he lost balance while cutting back a bush in his garden in Döbling district. The metal pike ripped through his upper body narrowly missing his ribs and emerged from out of his shoulder.Passersby kept the man stable on the fence until an ambulance and fire-fighters arrived at the scene.Doctors supervised as the firemen cut the man free with a bolt cutter, before surgically removing the rest of the metal spear embedded in his body at the city’s Lorenz Böhler Clinic.A hospital spokesman said today the man is doing better and will make a full recovery.
