Police warn about fake brand chainsaws

Burgenland police warned people today (Mon) against purchasing smuggled Asian chainsaws being sold on the street by Eastern Europeans, mostly Romanians, as STIHL products. The saws, produced in Asia and smuggled into Europe by sea, sell for 25 Euros at home but are being hawked in Austria at a price of 300 Euros under a fake STIHL brand.Police said the smuggled saws did not meet European quality and safety standards and were dangerous to use.In some cases, the smuggled saws carry brand names STEEL or STIEL rather than STIHL. Saws of that brand are available only at reputable retail dealers.Police asked anyone approached by a street vendor of chainsaws to contact them immediately.
