After losing their way and then finding it again, they found the pads on the bottom of their skis that gave them improved traction on the snow were no longer functioning properly. At that point, they called the mountain rescue service. Several members went to their location and gave them new pads. The rescuers then escorted them to a waiting piste grooming machine on which they rode down to the valley floor.
