BCR boss demands more effort in fighting black market

Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) CEO Dominic Bruynseels has appealed to Romanian leaders to increase their efforts to fight black market activities.The former Barclays Bank official said yesterday (Weds) the mortgage sector was “still at risk” due to the current situation in the Eastern European country which has been badly hit by the economic crisis. He also said that efforts to collect taxes must be strengthened.The British-born BCR chief suggested there should be a “more powerful partnership” between the state and its banks, according to a report by the Romanian Times.Austria’s Erste Group hold a majority in BRC, which is the leading bank in Romania with 665 branches.BCR officials announced recently the bank had suffered a 26.4 per cent decline in net profit in the first quarter of this year compared to the first three months of 2009.Operating results however increased by 13.7 per cent up to 184.4 million Euros in the same period.
