´Carmen´ seen by 315,000 Austrian households
The Vienna State Operas production of Georges Bizets opera “Carmen” yesterday evening (Thurs) was seen by 315,000 households on ORF 2, state broadcaster ORF reported today. It added that the presentation had had a market share of 18 per cent of the cable and satellite markets and Bayrischer Rundfunks broadcast of the opera had attracted 420,000 viewers.ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz said today he was satisfied with the numbers. “Carmen was the most successful opera broadcast in three years,” he said, noting ORF was one of the few TV broadcasters in Europe willing to broadcast such a cultural offering in prime time.ORF culture chief Martin Traxl said the broadcast had been “a motivational beginning of ORFs cultural offensive during the next few weeks.”The offensive would include broadcasts of the opening of the Vienna “Festwochen” (Festival Weeks), the Vienna Schönbrunn Palace Summer Night Concert and the gala openings of the Grafenegg and Salzburg Festivals, he said.
