Austrian apples and pears make best vodka

The best vodka does not come from Russia – it comes from Austria according to judges at the “International Wine and Spirits Competition” which was held at the Guildhall in London recently.

They judged the award-winning vodka produced by Josef Farthofer from Öhling in the Mostviertel as the prize-winning worldbeater – and it achieved top honours.

The competition is regarded as the most important in the wines and spirits branch and Farthofer said it was undoubtedly the high point of his career to date.

He travelled to London with his partner Doris Hausberger for the award.

It is the second top honour for Farthofer – two years ago he won gold for his Bio-Gin.

In his distillery in Öhling he uses only regional apples, pears and other fruits.
