Westbahnhof top Austrian train station
The Austrian traffic club (VCÖ) has once again named vienna’s Westbahnhof train station Austria’s number one station.
For the second year in a row the station was named Austria’s best station.
Linz Station came number two on the list. Most improved prize went to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof.
The least popular were the stations Attnang-Puchheim, Bregenz and Kufstein.
VCÖ spokesperson Christian Gratzer said: “A good train station is categorized though having plenty of train connections, easy access by public transport, easy access including barrier free access, and good architecture. Vienna’s Westbahnhof has a great central location and is easy to reach, these are particularly favourable plus points of Westbahnhof.”
Westbahnhof has been renovated since 2008 and has now been turned into ‘Bahnhofcity’. 200 million Euros were invested in t he renovation by the ÖBB.
Since 2011 Westbahnhof has a shopping and gastronomy centre spanning three levels and 17,00 square metres.
Vienna’s Hauptbahnhof currently undergoing renovations is number ten on the list.
For the survey 15,000 passengers were questioned.
