Hofer Austria boss to join Aldi Süd

Hofer Austria boss Johann Mörwald will join Aldi Süd’s “coordination board” by the end of this year, company officials announced today (Thurs).Mörwald has headed Hofer Austria – the German discount supermarket’s Austrian branch – since 2008.Austrian newspapers claimed Hofer Switzerland chief executive Günther Helm will become new Hofer Austria head.Mörwald is meanwhile set to coordinate Aldi Süd’s business in south-eastern Europe.Aldi Süd operates in southern Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, Switzerland, Greece and Austria.Hofer has a 20-per-cent share of Austria’s supermarket trade.Apart from foodstuff, the company offers cut-price consumer goods such as flat screen TVs, computers, clothes and housework utensils.Bargain lederhosen and dirndl dresses offered by Hofer were recently snatched up on the first day of sales in its branches across Austria.
