Vienna auctioneer pays €455,000 for Croatian gold and silver

A Vienna-based auction house has purchased the gold and silver stocks of a Croatian company that are worth almost half a million Euros, according to a newspaper report.The Croatian daily Slobodna Dalmacija claimed today (Weds) that auctioneer H. D. Rauch GmbH had won the public tender for 18.5 kilos of gold and 152,425 kilos of silver owned by the Sinj-based Alkar Knight Association. The daily said that the gold and silver Rauch had paid 455,000 Euros for would be sent by plane to Vienna at the end of this week or next week.The association’s knight-riding competitions taking place on the streets of the Croatian town of Sinj have been a tradition for more than 290 years. The association plans to build “Alkarski dvori” (Alkar Castle) with the earnings from the sale of its gold and silver stocks, according to the Croatian Times.
