Record year for Vienna tourism

Last year was a record year for Vienna’s tourism industry with the capital city seeing nearly 13 million visitors staying overnight in its hotels.

This is a 3.7% increase on overnight visitors in 2012 and the best numbers ever seen in the city.

“The fact that we have been able to beat the accommodation record for Klimt Year 2012 is not only a reflection of Vienna’s continued attractiveness but also demonstrates that our long-term strategy of diversifying into many different markets is paying off,” says director of the Vienna Tourist Board Norbet Kettner.

The majority of the visitors came from Germany, Austria, Russia and the USA. The year also saw an increase in visitors from South Korea, which was up 24% and China, up 5%.

For the eighth time in a row, Vienna has also been ranked as the world’s best location for congresses by the International Congress and Convention Association.
