Spanish side target rebel Arnautovic
A star-studded Spanish football team have set their sights on a wayward Austrian talent.Villareal CF are interested in snatching Marko Arnautovic, according to sport newspapers. Reports have it that the team who finished last season in fourth place are ready to pay more for the 22-year-old than his current club Werder Bremen forked out last summer. The German Bundesliga side transferred nearly seven million Euros to Dutch team Twente Enschede to procure the strikers services.Arnautovic has been in the news in rather negative context recently. Werder bosses reprimanded the ex-Rapid Vienna star for getting entangled in a disco brawl. He also made headlines by criticising the club in public and by claiming that no woman in the world will ever be loved the way he adores a football.The Vienna-born striker was not called up by coach Dietmar Constantini for the Austrian national teams upcoming Euro2012 qualification clash with Germany. The match will take place at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna on 3 June. All of the 50,000 tickets are sold out. Constantini explained that his decision was based on disciplinary reasons.Arnautovic reportedly criticised national squad teammate Stefan Maierhofer in the locker room after the teams 0-2 loss against Turkey in Istanbul last March for failing to score from a penalty. Other players had to deter the Werder striker from pouncing on Maierhofer, Austrian press have claimed.Arnautovic netted just twice for Werder last season. The team finished the 18-team league in a disappointing 13th place.Meanwhile, Sturm Graz midfielder Andreas Hölzl said he will be unable to compete for the national team against Germany due to a chronic muscular irritation. The condition may sideline the ex-Wacker Innsbruck star for three weeks.Constantini was tight-lipped today (Fri) over whether he planned to call up someone else to compensate for Hölzls absence. The midfielders club won the Austrian Bundesliga in a thriller last-round decision on Wednesday.Rapid Vienna are tipped to sell midfielder Veli Kavlak to Istanbul-based club Besiktas. The Austrian national team ace would become a teammate of former Sturm player Ekrem Dag at Besiktas. Rapid recently announced Magna Wiener Neustadt midfielder Guido Burgstaller will join them in summer. Magna manager Peter Schöttel is to replace Rapid caretaker manager Zoran Barisic from next season. Barisic was in charge just a few weeks following the sacking of Peter Pacult who joined German fourth-league team RB Leipzig, a club funded by Austrian energy drink producer Red Bull.Red Bull Salzburg (RBS) shocked fans earlier this week by revealing that Nigerian national team ace Rabiu Afolabi, German keeper Gerhard Tremmel, Swiss star Johan Vonlanthen, Hungarian defender Laszlo Bodnar, Serb Milan Dudic and Austrian goalkeeper Wolfgang Schober will leave the club ahead of next season.
