Schönbrunn animals flying high

The animals of Schönbrunn in Vienna will no longer be seen just taking up residence in the zoo but will soon appear flying high in the air. The ski resort of Zauberberg on Semmering has given the famous zoo its very own gondola on their cable car.

The cabin which currently features a picture of one of the zoo’s giraffes will play host to winter sports fans, transporting them in just seven minutes to the top of the 1,330 metre high Hirschenkogel Mountain. The first trip in the animal themed gondola was made by cable car directors Gudrun Eder und Günter Grubner and Zoo Director Dagmar Schratter.

“Children above all are overjoyed to be able to travel in an animal gondola,” said Schratter. The first gondola is just the start of long term cooperation between the Vienna Zoo and the Semmering Hirschenkogel cable car.

Gudrun Eder, who emphasised the similar aims of both popular Austrian attractions said, “The Schönbrunn Zoo in the middle of the city of Vienna and Zauberberg Semmering, the local mountain of the Viennese, are two tourist attractions with a long tradition. As a consequence of continual innovation, both are still hugely popular today.”
